SOLAR ENERGY INCENTIVES AVAILABLE IN IDAHO

Are you considering solar power for your home or business in Idaho? You’re in luck! Idaho offers many generous incentive programs for alternative energy solutions, making it a fantastic location to take advantage of solar incentives.

  • The Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit allows you a tax credit of 30% of the cost of your solar installation. As a provision of the recently-passed Inflation Reduction Act, this 30% tax credit has been extended through the end of 2032.

See Rebates & Incentives - Energy and Mineral Resources (idaho.gov) for more information.

  • The Idaho Residential Alternative Energy Tax Deduction allows payers to save up to 40% of the cost of their home's solar installations. This 40% deduction will be applied the year you purchase and install your photovoltaic system, plus you can save an additional 20% for the three years following that. The most you can save in one year is $5,000, and the total for four years is $20,000. This means that if you can wait for your money, you can get almost all of what you paid for your solar system back. In addition, you will be able to combine this with your federal-level tax savings.

This is one of the stronger programs in the industry and one that is well worth considering.

See Rebates & Incentives - Energy and Mineral Resources (idaho.gov) for more information.

  • This program allows you to receive credits for excess solar electricity generated by your system. To learn more about how it works, check out our FAQ page.

  • Idaho currently has relatively low electricity rates, it's important to note that rates typically increase each year. By installing a solar power system, you can pay off your investment each year and move towards energy independence, saving you money in the long run.If your electricity rates were to increase by 5% annually, you could end up spending significantly more money on electricity over time. For example, if you're currently paying $100 per month for electricity, in just five years, you could end up paying $127.63 per month due to the annual 5% increase. Over a 10-year period, your monthly electricity bill could increase to $163.86.

By installing a solar power system, you can protect yourself from rising electricity costs and potentially save thousands of dollars over time. Not only will you be able to produce your own clean, renewable energy, but you can also take advantage of various solar incentives and rebates offered by the state of Idaho and local utilities, making it an even more financially savvy decision.

  • The Idaho Governor’s Office of Energy and Mineral Resources (OEMR) offers low-interest loans for homeowners installing solar panel systems. These loans allow homeowners to borrow up to $30,000 for up to five years. Interest rates vary by the loan’s length. These interest rates include the following:

    3% for 36 months

    5% for 60 months

    7% for 84 months

The loans are first come, first serve, and five are available per region each year. Check the OEMR site to see which are still available in your area.

  • The state of Idaho offers strong Commercial Solar incentives that will allow for extra benefits and loan programs for your business or company that the residential programs may not offer including property tax exemptions, federal tax credits, net metering, low interest loans and rebate opportunities.
